Qualiform Rubber to Metal Bonding Services

Qualiform Inc. is a leading supplier of custom rubber to metal bonding services for many industries. For the automotive industry, we develop high quality suspension parts for increased performance at competitive prices.

Qualiform works with its customers to determine the best method of rubber to metal bonding, so our customers receive lower costs and higher performance.

Custom Rubber to Metal Bonding

This aluminum casting bonds to rubber with special care, so the final product has a perfect fit and finish. The rubber compound design handles serious side deflection issues and lateral tear problems. Qualiform works with the customer, so we can ensure the rubber meets a specific durability requirement.

Our knowledgeable technical staff can assist you with product development and design. We will help you select the right bonding agents for the performance requirements of the application. We also develop customized rubber to metal bonded solutions to meet customer requirements.

In addition to rubber to metal bonding, Qualiform Custom Rubber Molding creates quality custom rubber compression molding, custom transfer molding and custom rubber injection molding with the highest standards in customer service.

Insert Molding and Over Molding

Qualiform uses both injection molding and transfer molding for rubber to metal bonding. The process we use depends on the components intended application, which varies between industries. This rubber molding method is ideal for manufacturing many rubber and plastic parts: gears, shafts, rollers, bumpers and stops in many shapes and sizes. This process is also applicable for creating components that bond to steel, aluminum, brass and plastic.

With our expert technical staff, we can assist OEM design engineers with design consulting and selecting rubber compounds. Our team can provide recommendations based on the requirements of your application, so you always get the best product for the job. Furthermore, we work to efficiently produce components of unrivaled quality. We use our expertise to develop custom parts with precision rubber to metal bonding, so we can meet the specifications of any project.

The Rubber to Metal Bonding Process

Injection molding and transfer molding are the most effective methods for adhering rubber to metal or plastic. This bonding process also offers an improved mechanical bond for inserts and plastic parts.

Two Step Process

The manufacturing process requires two crucial steps for preparing the metal or plastic components for prior to molding the rubber. First, we start with degreasing, cleaning and removing other contaminants the plastic or metal components in preparation for industrial painting or coatings. Second, we spray a heat-activated adhesive onto the metal components.

The process requires a two-step preparation of the metal or plastic part prior to molding the rubber.  First, the part must be degreased and cleaned of any contaminants, similar to preparation for industrial coatings or painting.  Next, a special, heat-activated adhesive is uniformly sprayed onto the metal parts.

After preparing the part for overmolding, we insert the metal parts into the mold cavity. When molding a specific area, we hold the metal part in place with special magnets. In cases where the part requires full encapsulation in rubber, we hold the components in place with chaplet pins. We then close the mold and begin the molding process. The elevated molding temperature then cures the rubber and also activates adhesives. This forms the mechanical bond of rubber to metal or rubber to plastic components.

Encapsulating with Rubber to Metal Bonding

Completely encapsulating metal or plastic parts in rubber requires the use of rubber insert molding, which is similar to rubber to metal bonding. In this process, we suspend the existing component inside the mold cavity. In addition to full encapsulation, we can bond rubber to specific areas of plastic and metal components. This process creates a mechanical bond, which improves stability of metal parts with the flexibility of rubber materials. Rubber to metal bonding can also provide additional part properties: creating environmental seals, meeting NEMA standards, electrical conductivity, noise and vibration isolation, wear and impact resistance, chemical and corrosion resistance and more.

Materials we can mold, overmold and bond to a specific area include: steel, brass, aluminum, alloys, exotics, engineered resins and plastics.

This process is applicable for both smaller parts and significantly larger components. Overmolding is also an incredibly versatile process for components in various applications.
