Materials for Automotive Rubber Molding

Injection Molding

  • Best For: High-volume production (10,000+ units), precision parts (±0.005″), complex geometries
  • Applications: O-rings, grommets, small seals, connectors, multi-cavity tooling
  • Advantages: Fastest cycle times, minimal waste, excellent repeatability, automated production

Compression Molding

  • Best For: Large parts, moderate volumes (100-10,000 units), cost-sensitive projects
  • Applications: Engine mounts, large gaskets, floor mats, weatherstripping, vibration isolators
  • Advantages: Lowest tooling cost, ideal for large components up to 48″ x 56″

Transfer Molding

  • Best For: Rubber-to-metal bonding, medium volumes (500-50,000 units), parts with inserts
  • Applications: Bonded engine mounts, shaft seals with metal cases, electrical assemblies, bushings
  • Advantages: Excellent insert positioning, reduced flash, permanent metal adhesion

Rubber-to-Metal Bonding

Chemical adhesion systems providing bond strengths exceeding base material tear strength. Eliminates mechanical fasteners, distributes stress evenly, reduces assembly time.
